Development efforts enter 2021 with strong momentum
This year, Avondale Development Corporation and its many community partners made significant progress in its redevelopment efforts for and with the neighborhood – positioning the organization to move aggressively in the new year.
Cincinnati City Council approves Avondale Quality of Life Plan (January 2020)
In 2020, Avondale Development Corporation rolled out its Quality of Life plan and put the finishing touches on its comprehensive housing strategy for the neighborhood – providing a critical framework for the redevelopment efforts underway in Avondale. This important work would not have been possible without the support of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Fifth Third Bank, Greater Cincinnati Foundation, LISC and The Community Builders.
Several housing development projects featuring affordable and market-rate housing are poised to break ground in 2021. They include Bogart Avenue, Hale Avenue and Blair Lofts. These projects will ensure housing choices that both sustain a vibrant Avondale and improve the marketability of the neighborhood and are being undertaken with wide community involvement and support. Funders include Cincinnati Children’s, City of Cincinnati, First Financial Bank and LISC.
The business districts surrounding Avondale Town Center and on Burnett Avenue were the focus of a major grant from Bank of America in 2020. The “Neighborhood Builders” grant includes $200,000 in funding plus leadership training for ADC leadership, access to a network of peer organizations across the U.S. and the opportunity to access capital.
Avondale Leadership Development Center of Excellence (Concept)
And, finally, a $25,000 Urban Revitalization Grant from the Duke Energy Foundation will help the Avondale Leadership Development Center for Excellence in its efforts to improve our community by providing opportunities for our students to thrive. This high-tech, multi-purpose education and training facility serves as a centralized community-based hub for local residents, youth and families who desire to develop the next generation of regional and national leaders from among its citizens.
The future of Avondale is here. 2021 will show definitively that we are the hottest neighborhood in Cincinnati.
