The Community Builders’ footprint in Avondale is large and broad, as is its support of the Avondale Development Corporation.

The Community Builders help fund ADC’s community engagement efforts. The central ADC function includes everything from the Avondale Quality of Life initiative, Pitching for Peace and Avondale Night Walk to a robust communications effort to keep residents informed about important issues in the neighborhood.

TCB also supports the Avondale Economic Mobility Fund (EMF), a grant program designed to help at-risk Avondale families avoid displacement due to new development and investment in the neighborhood. The first two rounds of the EMF featured 40 grants of $1,000 each to residents. The program was modified to be responsive to the immediate needs of residents as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Grants of up to $1,000 were made available to any Avondale resident to ensure the availability of shelter, help them maintain social distancing, and access other resources. Residents were also eligible to participate in virtual financial literacy workshops to enhance their budgeting skills.

Avondale Day, a day-long series of events centered on health and community building, also benefits from TCB’s support. Events include the Avondale Festival & Health Fair, Black Men’s Health Forum and the 5K Avondale Feet in the Street walk and run. Avondale Day is a lifeline to at-risk African American families, providing health screenings, counsel and important information in the context of a day-long festival for friends and family.

TCB is a neighborhood catalyst. It develops housing for families and seniors and invests in local businesses and public entities that strengthen neighborhoods. Together with its partners, TCB brings diverse experience and comprehensive expertise to every community it serves.
