Avondale and the Uptown Innovation Corridor
As you have no doubt noticed, site work is underway at Uptown Gateway, the Uptown Innovation Corridor’s first new construction project. As the Corridor begins to take shape, it is important that Avondale residents keep updated on not just the project but what it means to our shared community.

The Avondale Development Corporation works closely with the Uptown Consortium – which is managing the Corridor development – on keeping residents informed and ensuring the community benefits from this major development project. Since work began on the I-71 interchange at Martin Luther King Boulevard – which made the Corridor possible – more than 300 meetings with Avondale residents and community leaders have been held, and we will continue to host more.
So, where do things stand? The Corridor is mainly centered on the four corners of the Reading Road – MLK intersection. As mentioned previously, Uptown Gateway – which occupies the southeast corner – is officially under construction and slated for completion in 2021. The new headquarters for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) will occupy the northwest corner; construction is expected to begin later in 2020. Plans for the node (northeast corner) are well underway; plans for Queen City LLC (southwest corner) are being developed.
But the Corridor is broader than this corner, and two new facilities – the 1819 Innovation Hub on Reading and the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute on MLK – are both open for business.
ADC will continue to share information about the Uptown Innovation Corridor through this newsletter, on our website and Facebook page and in a continuing series of public meetings.
