Funder Spotlight: LISC

Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is the nation’s leading community development organization, with offices in 31 cities and work underway in hundreds of rural communities across the country. LISC works collaboratively with local groups to help identify priorities and challenges, formulate strategies to address them and deliver the most effective support to meet the needs on the ground. In addition to Avondale, LISC Greater Cincinnati works with resident-led, community-based development organizations throughout Hamilton County and in Campbell and Kenton counties in Kentucky.

LISC Greater Cincinnati’s support of Avondale flows through its Place Matters program. Its funding of our Quality of Life (QOL) plan is a perfect example of how LISC can help transform communities in a holistic and comprehensive way.

With LISC’s assistance, ADC was able to develop the QOL plan using a textbook approach to community outreach and engagement: more than 230 one-on-one interviews, a visioning session that drew an audience of more than 300 and six weeks of working group meetings.

The result is a strategic plan residents and stakeholders can see themselves in, because they were there from beginning to end. You can see the final result here.
